 Vice President Yemi Osinbajo blamed actions of the militants for the current economic challeng– He said the Niger Delta Avengers were fighting for their own selfish benefit The federal government said the Niger Delta Avengers were not fighting for the freedom of the Niger Delta but rather for their own selfish interests. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said the militants were fighting for their private pocket and that is why the government is not talking with them, Vanguard reports.
 Prof Yemi Osinbajo, vice president of Nigeria Yemi Osinbajo said the Niger Delta Avengers were not fighting for the freedom of the Niger Delta He disclosed this while delivering the second foundation lecture of Elizade University, Ilaramokin, Ondo state entitled “The Future is here earlier than we thought.” “They are economic warriors fighting for their private pockets. They are not working for the interest of the region. “They had been creating more problems in the region by their activities. They had been polluting environment and making lives more difficult for the people,” Osinbajo said. The Vice president said rather than glorifying the militant group, they should be blamed saying if they were freedom fighters why would they destroy source of economic power. Condemning the activities of the Avengers, he said the federal government has concluded arrangements to tackle the menace of pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta region. “The previous government neglected the region for several years, hence the current challenges in the region. Osinbajo noted that Federal Government has put machinery in motion to curtail the activities of Niger Delta Avengers,” he said.  Eleme youths, NDAvengers react According to him, the activities of the Avengers were responsible for the epileptic power supply in the country. He added that state governors were unable to pay salaries due to the low revenue generated in the oil sector as a result of the attack on pipelines. The lecture was attended by traditional rulers including the Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi amongst other Obas. Militants have bombing oil facilities in the Niger Delta region and they have vowed not to stop until they cripple the economy. The commandant general of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Muhammadu, earlier disclosed that the federal government has begun to dialogue with some aggrieved Niger Delta militants to end the on-going bombings of oil facilities in the Niger Delta region.
