Dr. Oby Ezekwesili Gets Honored By University Of Essex

Everybody knows who Dr. Oby Ezekwesili is.

She is a Nigerian chartered accountant who served as Federal Minister of Solid Minerals and then as Federal Minister of Education during the second-term presidency of Olusegun Obasanjo. She also served as the Vice-President of the World Bank’s Africa division from May 2007 to May 2012. While working for the government
as the Pioneer head of the Budget Monitoring and Price Intelligence Unit (aka Due Process Unit), she earned the sobriquet of “Madam Due Process” for the outstanding work she did when she led a team of professionals in public procurement or contracting at the Federal level in Nigeria. Ezekwesili was instrumental to the start of the viral #BringBackOurGirls campaign on social media, which trended internationally.

With all these, The University of Essex in London deemed it fit to award her an honorary doctorate degree.

According to the university,
Our honorary degrees are presented to outstanding individuals to recognise their contributions to the arts, sport, industry, and public service”.
With the award, Ezekwesili has joined an elite crowd of awardees which include notable personalities including Nuala Mole, an international human rights lawyer and who led some of the world’s pro bono legal advice and advocacy organisations, and Annie Lennox, a successful musician and founder of the SING Campaign which supports women and children affected by HIV/AIDS, among others.
