Yemi Osinbajo says President Buhari is focused on his first term - Obasanjo tells the president not to think of contesting in 2019 Vice president Yemi Osinbajo has said President Muhammadu Buhari is
focused on delivering on the promises he made to Nigerians and is not talking about the general election due in 2019. “The president is focused on this term. He wants to ensure that he delivers on the promises that were made. He is not talking about 2019,” Reuters reported Yemi Osinbajo as saying in an interview with CNBC on Thursday, January 25. NAIJ news had reported Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Nigeria's former president, on Tuesday, January 23, asked President Muhammadu Buhari, not to seek re-election in 2019 as he is already being pressured to do by some Nigerians. In a statement: The Way Out: A Clarion Call for Coalition for Nigeria Movement, Obasanjo said President Buhari has performed far below expectation just as he added that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is not the solution to the country's challenges. Premium Times reported Obasanjo as asking Buhari to honourably dismount from the horse and join the league of former leaders whose experience, influence, wisdom and outreach can be deployed on the side line for the good of the country. Obasanjo said he was not excited with the way Buhari, who he supported during the 2015 general elections against Goodluck Jonathan, had handled the country. He said even Jonathan had come to realise that he made some mistakes and had publicly regretted them. However, Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello, on Tuesday, January 23, said President Muhammadu Buhari would win the 2019 presidential election despite opposition from some quarters, Daily Independent reports. NAIJ news gathered that Bello while unveiling infrastructural expo held at the Lokoja township stadium to mark the second year anniversary of his administration, said he was surprised that Buhari's critics were deploying all means to bring back Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to governance. He added that they were all bound to fail. Bello stated this in reaction to former president Olusegun Obasanjo’s letter where he asked President Buhari not to seek re-election in 2019. 2019 re-election bid: Should President Buhari heed Obasanjo's advice.
